Am I too late to be sharing summer cocktails? It’s not even mid August, and I’ve started to see people getting ready for Autumn! Noooo! I’ve not even got a tan yet! Not that I ever actually tan. I just tend to turn from blue-tinged whiteness to slightly pink, and then back to white again. I saw some spiced winter berry cordial in a gorgeous farm shop in Wilmslow on Saturday. My first thought was to steer clear of anything winter-related, but then I remembered a spicy cocktail I’d had recently when we were celebrating Chris’s birthday, and I thought it would be the perfect ingredient to try to recreate it.
This one is made by Belvoir and is really delicious. I’ve seen other spicy berry cordials too (such as Bottlegreen and Rocks Organic), but I haven’t tried them yet. Although it’s spicy, it’s also rich and sweet, so it pairs perfectly with the fizz of the ginger ale and the tartness of the lemon.
We got through this jug in no time at our BBQ yesterday. The kids loved it too. And I’m glad it distracted me from my problematic attempt at preparing sea bass for the BBQ! I got some whole sea bass on sale at the shops, and I’d forgotten how icky it was to gut and fillet them (blurgh). They turned out good in the end - with a bit of help from Chris’s mum - but I think I need some more practice so we don’t end up with teeny-tiny shredded fillets next time!! Hope you enjoy my new favourite summer drink. This jug makes about 8 glasses at 71 calories a glass, so not bad on the waistline too!
